Proudly representing Senate District 48
Senator Julia Coleman has served in the Minnesota State Senate since her election in 2020. She proudly represents Senate District 48, which includes communities in the eastern portion of Carver County. Senator Coleman is the Republican lead of the Education Policy Committee and serves as a member of the Transportation Committee. Prior to being elected to the Senate, Senator Coleman was the public relations manager for the Medical Alley Association and served on the Chanhassen City Council.
In Senator Coleman’s first legislative session, she authored and passed many bills to provide better resources for students, working mothers, children, and her community. Public safety is a top priority of hers as well, supporting safe neighborhoods and those who protect them.
In addition, Senator Coleman passed critical funding for Highway 212, which runs directly through her district and contains one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the state. After decades of past legislators and community leaders begging the state to update the infrastructure, Coleman finally succeeded, and her local community will be safer because of it.
During the 2022 legislative session, Senator Coleman authored an innovative paid family leave bill to expand access and provide tax incentives to businesses that offer this benefit to their employees. She also carried a key public safety bill to create a new penalty for recklessly endangering the public while fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. And this year, Senator Coleman will continue to fight for Minnesota families and safer communities.
Senator Coleman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Minnesota. During her time at the U, she served as the Student Body Representative to the Board of Regents and worked for multiple branches of government. In order to pay for her degree, Coleman earned generous scholarships by winning the title of Miss Minneapolis, and she continues to be involved in the Miss America Organization.
Senator Coleman lives in Waconia with her husband Jacob. Together they have three toddler boys — Adam, and identical twins, Charles and James.
