Senator Carla Nelson (R-Rochester), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on E-12 Education Finance and Policy, released the following statement in response to Governor Tim Walz’s proposed education budget that he released on February 19, 2019:
“As former teachers, Governor Walz and I share a commitment to investing in the next generation of Minnesotans. While I appreciate his focus on E-12 education in his proposed budget, we must keep in mind, funding commitments made today need to be sustainable for the future. Over the last two years, my Senate colleagues and I crafted a sustainable education budget that increased funding across the board, both years, without raising taxes. Due to the Senate’s leadership and our projected budget surplus, we can continue to invest in our students across the state. As Chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee, I look forward to establishing an education budget that puts students first and funds what works.”
