At the end of the 2017 session, Gov. Dayton attempted to use his line item veto authority to eliminate funding for the legislature. Today, a Ramsey County Court overturned the governor’s veto as unconstitutional, thereby restoring funding for the House and Senate. Sen. Roger Chamberlain (R-Lino Lakes) released the following statement on the court’s action.
“The governor’s last-minute attempt to eliminate funding for the House and Senate was nothing more than him losing control. Rather than live with a deal he previously agreed to, he chose to waste valuable taxpayer money on a pointless fight he was destined to lose. I’m glad the court has restored some level of sanity to the matter. I hope we can now put this behind us, return to the business of the legislature, and continue serving all Minnesotans.”
