At the end of the 2017 session, Gov. Dayton attempted to use his line item veto authority to eliminate funding for the legislature. Today, a Ramsey County Court ruled the governor’s veto unconstitutional. Sen. Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing) released the following statement on the court’s decision.
“I am glad the court has decided in favor of the legislature, proving that all three branches of government are co-equal. Our republic is about balance – the legislature, courts, and executive branch should each serve as a check upon one another. The court’s decision reaffirms the people’s right to representation by the legislative branch, and the right to have access to the important services that branch provides. I am happy we will now be able to resume our focus on the issues that Minnesotans care about.”
