Senator Rich Draheim’s bipartisan bill to simplify the Minnesota job training program grant to make it more effective unanimously passed the Minnesota Senate on Wednesday, April 25. The legislation modifies the 20-year-old grant program to make it more successful for job training programs operating today, including targeting people who need it most. The job training program grant funds organizations that find stable, long-term employment for Minnesotans who need work. The program is unique in that the grant pays based on performance, meaning the organization only receives state funding after an individual achieves stable employment.
“For every dollar the state spends on the job training program grant, Minnesota receives a $7 return on its investment,” said Senator Draheim. “Not only do individuals living in poverty find meaningful long-time employment, but every Minnesota taxpayer benefits. That’s a win-win for all.”
After passing the Senate on a 66-0, the legislation now awaits action on the Minnesota House floor.
