Senator John Jasinski response to Minneapolis child care center raid

On June 13, a child care center in Minneapolis was raided over allegations of fraud and misconducted related to improper billing. The investigation, which was conducted by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the United States Department of Health and Human Services, was part of an ongoing probe into the rampant child care funding fraud scandal, which could be costing Minnesota taxpayers as much as $100 million per year.

State Senator John Jasinski (R-Faribault) released the following statement.

“When taxpayers are being bilked out of possibly hundreds of millions of dollars, it’s a big deal. We heard testimony this session from in home child care providers who were the targets of bullying and fearmongering by DHS. We heard testimony that DHS would issue citations for infractions like having rabbit poop on their lawn, grass that was too sharp, or crayon marks on the table. Meanwhile, a massive child care assistance fraud scheme was happening right under their nose. I hope this raid is just the beginning.”
