A deadline for combat veterans to apply for a tax credit potentially worth hundreds of dollars is approaching quickly.
Minnesota offers a credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone worth $120 per month, or partial month of service. Veterans have about four years to apply for the credit. That means veterans who served in a combat zone or hazardous area in 2014 must apply for their tax credit by October 15.
“When you go to combat for your country, coming back is no guarantee,” said Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona). “The least we can do for the men and women who display that level of courage and selflessness is let them keep as much of the money they earned as possible. It pains me that some veterans might miss out simply because they were not aware of these deadlines, so I hope people will spread this information far and wide.”
