Senator Paul Gazelka today celebrated the announcement of new state and federal investments in affordable housing in Motley and Staples. Developments in the two cities were chosen to receive funding by Minnesota Housing, the state’s housing finance agency, after a competitive statewide application process.
“Central Minnesota needs more workforce housing to reach its full economic potential,” said Sen. Paul Gazelka (R-Nisswa). “I’m pleased to see Staples and Motley receive this much-needed funding boost so we can attract new workers and current residents can continue to live in the communities they call home.”
In Staples, $10.8 million was awarded to the Mill Townhomes, a new construction development that will include 42 townhomes with workforce housing and supportive housing. The development will serve primarily low income households, but also includes residences for high priority homeless households and households with disabilities.
In Motley, $1.7 million in funding was awarded to rehabilitate and preserve 24 affordable rental homes at Country Terrace. The development will serve low income households and those using Rural Development rental assistance.
In total, Minnesota Housing awarded funding for more than 1,700 new and rehabilitated affordable housing units that will support more than 3,600 jobs and invest a total of $364 million in total development costs statewide.
