Ending government waste & lowering the cost of health care among top issues
On the first day of the 2019 legislative session, Senator Andrew Mathews (R-Milaca) joined his Minnesota Senate colleagues in unveiling their top priorities for the upcoming session, placing a focus on Minnesota families. Specifically, Senator Mathews is focusing on government accountability and ending waste, fraud, and abuse in St. Paul.
“From millions wasted on Minnesota’s driver’s license system MNLARS, to childcare subsidy fraud, to unchecked elder abuse, Minnesotans deserve more from their state government,” said Senator Mathews. “The legislature needs to treat taxpayer dollars as a limited and precious resource. This session, I intend on leading the discussion on holding our government accountable and ensuring every penny is spent wisely and according to law.”
In addition to government accountability, Senator Mathews and his fellow Republican legislators identified lowering the cost of health care, ensuring coverage for preexisting conditions, conforming Minnesota’s tax code with the federal government, providing mental health services, and increasing access to affordable childcare as top priorities for 2019.
Senator Mathews also identified protecting our energy generation jobs, repairing our roads and bridges, and strengthening Lake Mille Lacs tourism as top local priorities.
“An open and healthy Lake Mille Lacs makes our community stronger,” added Senator Mathews. “I look forward to prioritizing our community this session through protecting tax payer dollars, returning money to the wallets of Minnesota families, and investing in Greater Minnesota infrastructure.”
