Honored cadets at annual military ball in Braham

On January 12, Senator Mark Koran (R-North Branch) addressed the Polaris Battalion Division of the Navy Sea Cadets at their annual military ball. The Cambridge based cadet group holds the annual event to honor all military, distribute achievement awards, and swear-in new members. The Navy Sea Cadets program is for young men and women ages 13-17 who are interested in developing their skills in leadership, basic seamanship, courage, self-reliance, and discipline.

“This is an incredible group of young men and women who represent the next generation of leaders in our state and country,” said Senator Koran. “It is an honor to participate in their annual ceremony.”

The Sea Cadets annually volunteer in setting up the Koran Family Christmas display, a free community light display hosted by Mark Koran and his family every year since 1958. At the display, a freewill donation is taken to support the four community youth organizations that help in setting it up. 100% of the donations go directly to the groups, and each of the four groups receive an equal share. This year, visitors to the display donated $5,928, the highest amount in the history of the event.

“It was a pleasure to present the Sea Cadets with their portion of the community donations,” added Koran. “Our community generosity is amazing and supporting the Sea Cadets and their mission is a worthy cause.”
