Rochester lawmaker especially helpful on pro-Main Street votes
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Minnesota announced the presentation of its Guardian of Small Business award to Senator Carla Nelson (R-Rochester) for her leadership and votes in support of small businesses. With 10,000 members statewide, NFIB is Minnesota’s largest small-business group.
“As a small business owner, I understand firsthand the challenges that come with being a small business owner,” said Senator Nelson. “Small businesses and the jobs they provide drive our regional and state economies. I am proud to advocate on their behalf and I will continue to champion policies that allow small businesses to flourish in our communities.”
Nelson received a 100% rating from the group for her votes during the 2017-2018 sessions of the Minnesota Legislature, including her authorship of legislation that removed the inflator on business property taxes. Nelson also authored a $1 million increase in the estate tax exemption which is critical for small businesses and family farms. Both were signed into law.
“Senator Nelson is a real friend of small business, and we are happy to announce that she has earned the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award,” said Mike Hickey, NFIB Minnesota state director.
