Last week,
the Office of the Legislative Auditor released
its special review on the Minnesota Licensing and Registration
System (MNLARS), outlining problems with the MNLARS’s release including
software and leadership failures.
Following the release Senator Dan Hall (R-Burnsville) issued the following
statement:
“The report from the OLA is disturbing and outlines the degree of failure that took place during the Dayton administration. Minnesotans deserve a licensing system that works, plain and simple. For well over a year residents of Minnesota have suffered as two governor administrations have failed to deliver change or even an effective plan of attack. Before the legislature can provide any more money to address the systems issues, a detailed plan must be developed, and changes must be made internally to fix the awful bureaucratic process that prevented MNLARS’ success in the first place.”
Governor Walz has recently requested $15.7 million to help to clean up the MNLARS mess that has made it such a headache for Minnesotans looking for DMV services. Unfortunately, the request comes with without any specific plan to fix the MNLARS or exact details in how the appropriation would be used. The proposal also failed to included funds for Minnesota’s deputy registrars who have suffered significant financial harm throughout the MNLARS disaster.
