On Monday, June 24, Senator Rich Draheim (R-Madison Lake) will join President Donald Trump as the president signs an executive order to improve price transparency in health care. The ceremony is set to take place at The White House in Washington, D.C. at 2:00 p.m. CT/3:00 p.m. ET.
“It will be an honor to stand behind President Trump as he works to make health care more affordable for Minnesotans and all Americans,” said Senator Draheim. “The president has recognized our efforts in Minnesota to make health care costs more transparent, and I’m looking forward to working with the president to accomplish this on a national scale.
The president’s executive order will direct health insurers and health care providers to disclose additional information regarding the cost of care. According to Reuters, the president “will direct federal agencies to initiate regulations and guidance that could require insurers, doctors, hospitals and others in the industry to provide information about the negotiated cost of care.”
Minnesota has established itself as a leader in consumer-friendly, innovative methods for increasing transparency within health care billing and driving down health care costs. Senator Draheim was the author of several pieces of legislation that were signed into law last session, including requiring hospitals to provide a plain-language bill for services (Senate File 13), a requirement that health care facilities disclose certain fees (Senate File 131), and the ‘Right to Shop Act’ (Senate File 3).
“The president is following Minnesota’s lead in working to bend the cost curve of health care downward,” said Senator Draheim. “We’ve made health care more affordable and easier to understand – and that’s good news for all of us.”
Senator Rich Draheim represents District 20, which includes communities in Le Sueur, Rice, and Scott counties, in the Minnesota Senate.
