(St. Paul, MN) – Recently, Senator Carrie Ruud (R-Breezy Point) traveled to Chicago with the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus. They visited sites that make up the Chicago Area Waterway System including Brandon Road Lock & Dam and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ electric dispersal barriers. They also heard several presentations on restoring lakes and rivers, monitoring nutrient pollution, and controlling Asian Carp. A lot of discussions highlighted the value of investing in the Great Lakes which are necessary for many aspects of the economy.
“I am confident that devoting funding and resources to eliminating Aquatic Invasive Species and keeping our lakes healthy will be worth it,” said Senator Ruud. “I am thankful for the conferences I get to attend as a legislator. It is encouraging to see the states around us prioritizing our environment and economy. Our water and other natural resources are healthier because we are working together and sharing new and innovative ideas.”
