Senator Senjem to lead bonding committee tour in Southwestern Minnesota

Next week, the Minnesota Senate Capital Investment Committee will continue its MNfrastructure bonding tour in Southwestern Minnesota. The tour, which will take place Tuesday, October 22 through Thursday, October 24, is the third in a series of tours in each region of the state.

“We’re going back on the road to visit projects in Southwestern Minnesota and see the needs firsthand. With so many capital needs across the state, but limited funding, these tours help the committee make those tough funding decisions,” said Senator David Senjem (R-Rochester), chair of the Senate Capital Investment Committee. “More than $5 billion in capital requests have been submitted this year and there are many worthy projects. I’m looking forward to continue the tours.”

The committee will make stops in Shakopee, Norwood Young America, Henderson, Mankato, Vernon Center, Lake Crystal, New Ulm, Fairmont, Worthington, Jeffers, Marshall, Redwood Falls, Morton, Wilmar, Deephaven, and Wayzata. The committee will hear more than two dozen proposals from local governments, colleges, state agencies, and other entities. More information, including the tour schedule and list of projects, can be found on the MNfrastructure website.

Projects are eligible for bonding – the process by which the state finances certain construction projects of local, regional, and statewide significance through the selling of bonds – if they are publicly owned and designated as infrastructure. More than $5.3 billion in capital requests have been made by state agencies, colleges, cities, counties, townships, and other government entities across Minnesota. When the legislature convenes in February, the committee will formally consider the requests before putting together a bill.

Senator David Senjem, of Rochester, represents Dodge and Olmsted counties in the Minnesota Senate. He serves as chair of the Senate Capital Investment Committee and is a former majority leader and minority leader.
