(ST. PAUL) – Members of the Judiciary committee and the Veterans committee, including chairman Senator Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo), took a joint tour of the Veterans treatment courts today. Veterans treatment courts play a significant role in keeping veterans out of the criminal justice system by taking the impact of their military service into account. These courts require regular court appearances, treatment sessions, and random drug and alcohol testing. By meeting obligations set by the courts, veterans are getting the help they need to reintegrate. Connecting to specific benefits and services is extremely useful as they pursue a successful future. Senators and staff heard success stories and they shared their plans to grow their motivational mentor support system.
“Today’s tour was encouraging,” said Senator Anderson. “The camaraderie built here is inspiring. It is changing lives and I will continue to support the important work being done here for our veterans.”
