Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends! We stayed inside and admired the wintry weather. We are looking forward to the Christmas season! I am thankful for the opportunity to serve our community. It has been a wonderful year.
Over the last several months, I have touched on some highlights from the budget bills we passed last session. Below is an update for you on a few things we passed for higher education.
- We invested over $18 million in the Minnesota State Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to low-income students at all higher education institutions in the state, including private college and universities.
- We prioritized students and college affordability by capping tuition at all Minnesota public higher education institutions and freezing online tuition fees at Minnesota State campuses.
- We included significant expansion of the Workforce Development Scholarship Program by including additional training programs. This is vital for the expansion of our workforce. Students should have access to an education that will prepare them for the demands of today’s economy.
As our economy changes, so do the demands for higher education. We are ensuring students have opportunities to pursue careers in a variety of fields in order to guarantee that Minnesota grows a strong and well-rounded workforce. We will continue to prioritize access to excellent education to prepare the next generation!
