State Senator Andrew Mathews  (R – Princeton) returned to the capitol this Tuesday for the convening of the 2020 Legislative Session.  This session, Republican legislators will prioritize the funding of Minnesota’s roads and bridges, strategies to support secure voting, school safety, and the exemption of social security income tax for seniors in the state.

“I’m optimistic about this session,” said Sen. Mathews. “We have the opportunity to build on our successes from last year, including tax cuts for the middle class, reduction of the social security income tax, and necessary investments in roads and bridges. Additionally, I will be paying particular attention to the bonding requests I’ve submitted for my district.”

The City of Becker continues to be in the running to receive bonding funds to build and equip infrastructure for its proposed business park. This would include wastewater and sewage systems. The City of Foley has also submitted a bonding request for upgrades to its wastewater system.

Sen. Mathews concluded, “The Senate Republicans have laid a foundation of responsibility that has resulted in a well-funded state. Now, we have the chance to shift focus from the budget to issues such as lowering drug costs and more tax relief. I have been listening closely to feedback from my district, and I look forward to advocating for their interests in St. Paul.”
