The Minnesota Senate on Monday night will pass a new round of emergency funding for hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical professionals on the front lines to combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“Last week’s emergency funding was just the start,” said Sen. John Jasinski (R-Faribault) “I am committed to making sure hospitals, long-term care facilities, and emergency responders have the resources they need to protect Minnesotans and their loved ones.”
Last week, the Legislature unanimously approved $21 million for emergency funding to combat COVID-19. The emergency funds will allow the Minnesota Department of Health, in collaboration with state and federal officials, to support disease investigation, monitor potential cluster outbreaks, provide information to the public, coordinate statewide response activities, and conduct laboratory analysis.
Leaders of the Minnesota Legislature have also announced that beginning Tuesday, March 17, the House and Senate will extend their previously planned Easter Recess and suspend committee hearings and floor sessions until April 14 in order to protect the public and limit the public spread of COVID-19.
“The Senate may be suspending official operations for the next month, but I want everyone to know that as your state senator, I will continue to work and be available to answer people’s questions and concerns,” added Sen. Jasinski. “As a member of Senate leadership, I will continue working at the capitol and remaining in close communication with the House and Governor’s office on our next steps. In addition, I will be working in the district as well. If constituents have any questions, worries, or feedback they’d like to express, they can – and should – continue to contact me as usual.”
