Today the Minnesota Senate approved legislation for the distribution $2 billion of federal COVID-19 assistance funds intended to help health professionals, assist businesses, and aid local governments recovering from the economic impact of COVID-19. That money went into an account called the Federal Coronavirus Relief Fund, so it could be quickly deployed where it is needed most.
Today’s legislation ensures that the local government portion of the funding – about $841 million – will be fairly distributed to Minnesota counties, cities, and towns based on their population. Aitkin County will receive $2 million, Crow Wing County will receive over $8 million, and cities and townships will receive additional funding.
“Our communities leveraged their resources to prepare for a surge of COVID-19 cases and this funding will be the assistance we need to continue rebuilding our local economies,” said Senator Carrie Ruud (R-Breezy Point). “Our district is resilient, and I know with this support and the determination of our local leaders and business owners, we will be back on our feet soon.”
