Sen. Miller applauds MnDOT decision to host public open house on Winona roundabouts

Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) today applauded the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) for its decision to host an additional public open house to provide updates and gather more resident input before proceeding to the final design phase of the new roundabouts at and near Highway 43 and Highway 61 in Winona. The announcement comes after Sen. Miller appealed to MnDOT on October 5 to host additional public meetings for residents to learn more about the designs and provide an opportunity for people to provide input.

“I’m grateful that MnDOT made the decision to provide an update on the project and gather more crucial feedback directly from the citizens who will be most impacted by the proposed roundabouts,” said Sen. Miller. “The roundabouts, especially the one at the intersection of Highway 43 and 61, continue to be one of the issues I hear about most from Winona residents. It’s clear that people have passionate feelings about the design, and MnDOT made the right call to have more public interaction on the project before proceeding to the final design phase.”

MnDOT’s virtual open house will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Individuals who are interested in participating may go to the project website at www.mankatoavereconstruction.com/share-your-ideas to register for the meeting and follow the attendance instructions.

During the virtual meeting, members of the project team will highlight information about the project, including the intersection of Hwy 43 and Hwy 61. The project, scheduled for 2022, includes four roundabouts along the corridor.

The final design phase is scheduled to begin this fall.
