A bill has been introduced by Senator Gene Dornink (R-Hayfield) establishing a program to provide payments to firefighters with cancer or heart disease, counseling for firefighters, and firefighter training. This would be included in the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program.
“I am pleased to be the sponsor for this important legislation providing support to our firefighters,” Senator Dornink said. “The physical, mental, and emotional toll their career takes on them needs to be prioritized to ensure the highest level of safety for our Hometown Heroes.”
Supporting emergency responders is a priority for the Minnesota Senate not only now, but continuously throughout the future. Providing monetary support for firefighters diagnosed with cancer or heart disease, offering customized counseling, and new training programs to teach safety practices for their physical health are a few ways this program will assist firefighters.
