All United States and Minnesota flags at all Minnesota state buildings. will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on January 11, in honor and remembrance of Captain Andy Loso. Capt. Loso died on November 23 from COVID-19 illness contracted in the line of duty and is survived by his wife and children.
Capt. Loso grew up in St. Joseph and served with the volunteer fire department for 19 years.

Loso during this time of grief,” said Senator Jeff Howe (R-Rockville). “This loss underscores the continuous risks taken by our firefighters, EMTs, and first responders—every day presents these heroes with dangerous challenges. Despite this, these brave first responders still step up to protect us and our communities, and they should receive the highest accolade for doing so. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters mourning the death of a beloved neighbor and local hero. Capt. Loso’s absence will be deeply felt and mourned throughout our community.”
