(St. Paul, MN) Today, House Democrats unveiled their plan for a $100 million public safety plan. The proposal contains significant funding for community engagement and nonprofits but was noncommittal to provide resources for new officers or strengthen sentencing guidelines.
Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria) issued the following statement:
“The proposal presented today by the House DFL does nothing in the short or long term to address rising crime and represents a continued effort focused on scoring political points rather than stopping criminals.”
“Our state has spent enough taxpayer money on progressive liberal “feel-good programs,” and failed “catch and release” policies that aid convicted criminals. It doesn’t work! Aimlessly throwing more money at the problem won’t solve anything, especially until local officials support their law enforcement.”
“Unlike our colleagues in the other chamber, Senate Republicans will not make the same mistake. We will continue to advocate for safer communities, more police officers, and policies that hold criminals accountable.”
