Friends and neighbors, 

The 2022 legislative session recently began on Monday, Jan. 31, and it is a privilege to be back in St. Paul to represent the people of Senate District 29. I remain committed to addressing the issues most important to Minnesota and our local communities.

This session, I will continue to serve as the vice chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee, where my colleagues and I will review key polices to support Minnesota’s service members and veterans. I will also serve as a member of the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Rural Development Finance and Policy;Civil Law and Data Practices Policy; and Judiciary and Public Safety Finance and Policy.

My Senate Republican colleagues and I will focus this session on affording everyday life, reducing crime, and empowering parents to get Minnesota back on the right track.  

We are all aware of the rise in crime in the Twin Cities and its suburbs. To address this, we will work on a variety of public safety initiatives including transparency in prosecution to keep county attorneys accountable. We plan to drive down crime by being tougher on criminals and repealing the five-year cap on probation. 

Furthermore, Senate Republicans will work to quickly respond to the urgent need to increase Minnesota’s police presence. We will focus on polices that give additional tools and resources to fight crime and recruit and retain police officers.

In addition to public safety, the state’s projected $7.7 billion surplus will be another highly discussed topic this session. I will continue to prioritize policies that help Minnesotan’s afford their lives by blocking unnecessary spending and providing further tax relief. We will also work to eliminate the burdensome Social Security tax for Minnesota seniors.

Additionally, COVID restrictions and distance learning has strongly affected our children’s quality of education. We will prioritize the empowerment of parents to put our kids back on the right track. Many parents have raised concerns about the quality of their children’s education. To address this, lawmakers must empower and encourage and affirm a parent’s role as active partners in their child’s education.
