Lang, Senate pass Environment bill focused on strengthening Minnesota’s environment and increasing access to outdoor recreation

The Minnesota Senate today passed a comprehensive environment and natural resources bill that focuses on policy initiatives that strengthen Minnesota’s environment while increasing access to outdoor recreation. This bill expands access to state parks, develops Minnesota’s tourism, supports responsible hunting and fishing, and protects the environment.

The legislation incudes several provisions that increase hunting, fishing, and recreation accessibility to those that want to enjoy state parks and trails. To enhance state tourism opportunities, this bill also creates a program to encourage more events to come to Minnesota. Another key tenet of this bill amplifies initiatives that improve recycling and waste removal processes in an effort to protect and preserve the environment.

“We need to protect our state’s resources, while also supporting the industries, like hunting and fishing, that benefit our economy and make our state unique. Everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty and recreation our state has to offer, and today’s bill strikes a balance between those priorities,” said Senator Andrew Lang (R-Olivia).

Other notable policy provisions include:

  • Funding for Score Grants to assist counties with solid waste and plastic removal costs to keep our lakes and rivers clean
  • Shooting Range Improvement Grants to increase outdoor shooting range capacity for youth shooters and the general public use
  • Increased tourism funding to secure revenue-generating events around the state to support local economies
  • Greater access for disabled Minnesotans by allowing them to use motor vehicles in wildlife management areas

The bill passed in the Senate with bipartisan support.
