Today the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) released its report on the state oversight to taxpayer-funded grants to non-profits. The report “found pervasive noncompliance by state agencies with grants management policies in recent years and statutes provide little authority to enforce agencies’ compliance with these policies.”
Senator Michael Kreun (R-Blaine) released the following statement in response:
“The Feeding Our Future fraud scandal revealed the immediate need for non-profits to have adequate oversight and transparency, especially when they are utilizing taxpayer-funded grants. I hope that the Legislative Audit Commission reviews the recommendations and initiates bipartisan reforms that protect taxpayer dollars and demand accountability.
“It is also imperative that the legislature stop creating grant programs that are not designed to meet a critical need and that lack adequate controls to ensure transparency and accountability and prevent fraud. There are so many great non-profit organizations throughout the state that are doing commendable work—we should not allow their efforts to be undermined by those unwilling to follow the rules.”
