The Minnesota Senate on Tuesday passed a $1.1 billion Housing bill that makes needed investments in housing while creating new home ownership opportunities and expanding workforce housing. Included in this bill is language that helps manufactured home park residents buy the parks in which they live, which has repeatedly been championed by Senator Karin Housley (R-Stillwater).
“This bill is a clear example of the good work that can get done when we come together to address the issues of Minnesotans across the state,” said Housley. “This bill makes significant investments in housing and creates new homeownership opportunities for current and future generations. Though I do have concerns about the ongoing costs of rental assistance, I am committed to working in a bipartisan way to address this issue and find a reasonable solution. Overall, this is a good bill that will serve many in an extremely positive way. Minnesotans have been asking us to address the housing crisis, and this bill provides an excellent starting point.”
Notably accepted were two amendments authored by Sen. Housley:
- Required financial oversight for both non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses
- Required report regarding the number and cost of FTEs required to administer appropriations and programs contained in this bill
The bill passed with bipartisan support.
