Senator Michael Kreun (R-Blaine) released the following statement on the state budget forecast indicating a $2.4 billion surplus dulled by a looming $2.3 billion deficit beginning in 2025:
“Yesterday’s announcement is incredibly disappointing for many reasons. Minnesota had a $17.5 billion surplus less than a year ago, but the Democrat majority chose to spend the surplus, grow state government by nearly 39%, while simultaneously implementing $10 billion in tax hikes. Yesterday’s news shows that Minnesota is now facing a long-term deficit that will continue to grow every year. This was predictable and entirely preventable. It is imperative that Minnesota become fiscally responsible immediately.
Families are facing increases across the board: increased costs for groceries, rent, gas, and more. Minnesota simply cannot afford reckless fiscal management in state government.”
