Senator Lieske kicks off the 2024 legislative session

Minnesota State Senator Bill Lieske (R-Lonsdale) returned to the capitol on Monday, February 12 for the beginning of the 2024 session of the Minnesota Legislature. The agenda and debate this session will be shaped in large part by the forthcoming February revenue forecast, scheduled to be released later this month, which will detail the state’s financial picture. A report issued by the office of Minnesota Management and Budget last December projected a small budget surplus for the upcoming session and a $2.5 billion deficit in the following budget cycle.

This interim I spent a lot of time around the district, chatting with people about what is on their minds and the direction they see this state going,” Senator Lieske said. “Folks are angry about the broken promises of tax relief. They aren’t wild about the new flag and the process that was used to pick it. They are frustrated by so many proposals that seem to prioritize illegal immigrants over our own citizens, especially in the middle of a national border crisis. The Democrat majorities in the House and Senate, along with Gov. Walz,  have been out of touch with what is on the minds of working Minnesotans, but I will keep making sure the people’s voices are heard.”

Sen. Lieske is serving his first term in the Minnesota Senate representing district 58, which includes communities in Dakota, Goodhue, Rice, and Scott Counties. Sen. Lieske is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee and the Labor Committee.
