On Monday, Senator Eichorn (R-Grand Rapids) joined Senate Republicans in a formal dissent against the vote on the Jobs and Economic Development Finance Omnibus bill after Senator Nicole Mitchell (D-Woodbury) cast the deciding vote amidst a cloud of controversy following her felony burglary arrest.
The protest reads, “We protest and dissent against the vote of SF-5289 which was adopted by the Senate with a deciding vote being cast by someone clearly unfit for office. We believe it is an abuse of power by both Sen. Mitchell, the Senate Majority Caucus, and its members.” The letter of dissent was signed by all 33 members of the Senate Republican Caucus.
“The integrity of the Minnesota Senate and the trust of the voters in this state have been violated,” said Senator Eichorn. “With no resolution to this issue in sight, it appears that Mitchell will continue to be allowed to cast the deciding vote on consequential legislation affecting Minnesotans. It is absolutely an abuse of power for Democrats to allow this.”
