Legislative Update: Honoring Sen. Tomassoni and Protecting Minnesota Tax Dollars

Friends and Neighbors,

On Wednesday, the Senate unanimously supported a bill to honor Sen. Tomassoni by renaming part of Hwy 169, from Marble to Mountain Iron, the “Senator David J. Tomassoni Memorial Cross Range Expressway.”

Senator Tomassoni left a great legacy of camaraderie and was a fearless advocate for the Iron Range. Our Delegation promised to carry on fighting for the Range, and part of that promise is to honor Sen. Tomassoni for his decades-long work to expand Hwy 169.

Additionally, on Friday, the Democrats passed a Legacy Omnibus bill that should have carried on the Legacy Amendment’s promise of supporting clean water and natural habitats. Unfortunately, the bill spends $12M on unaccountable, progressive “arts programs.”

When voters approved the Legacy Amendment in 2008, they expected their money to be focused on protecting Minnesota’s resources, but Democrats rejected our attempts to increase accountability for the millions of dollars being allocated to questionable art projects.

If you have any questions, please reach out at any time.

Sincerely,

Justin D. Eichorn

Minnesota Senate, District 6
