Commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day

Friends and neighbors,

On June 6, 1944, known as D-Day, a pivotal moment unfolded in World War II. On this historic day, 160,000 American troops and their Allied forces launched a daring invasion of northern France, storming the heavily fortified beaches of Normandy. This courageous maneuver marked the beginning of the liberation of France and, eventually, other parts of Europe, from the oppressive Nazi-German regime.

On the eve of the invasion, General Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered a powerful message to the Allied forces, emphasizing the monumental nature of their mission: “You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.”

The sacrifices made 80 years ago were immense. It is paramount to never forget the extraordinary bravery and unwavering determination taken to alter the course of the entire war and preserve our freedoms.

Sincerely,

Bruce Anderson
