State Senator Jordan Rasmusson (R-Fergus Falls) today announced that the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) has approved more than $6 million in funding for two critical water infrastructure improvement projects in the City of Pelican Rapids.

“Congratulations to the City of Pelican Rapids for securing a significant investment in their water infrastructure,” Sen. Rasmusson said. “It is crucial that we prioritize our taxpayer dollars on core infrastructure to ensure our communities have the resources they need to thrive. This funding will play a key role in enhancing and maintaining the city’s essential water systems for many years to come.”

Specifically, PFA awarded a project financing package for the City of Pelican Rapids to rehabilitate its sanitary sewer collection system along Trunk Highway 59 and Trunk Highway 108. The package includes a Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan of $577,745 and a Water Infrastructure Fund grant of $2,310,978, totaling $2,888,723.

“The City of Pelican Rapids is delighted to learn that the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority has awarded more than $6 million in a financing package for the replacement of our aging water and sanitary sewer infrastructure during our ‘2024-2025 Pelican Rapids Complete Streets Project’,” Mayor of Pelican Rapids Brent E. Frazier shared. “Our current water and sanitary sewer infrastructure is nearly 100 years old, thus probably outliving its life expectancy. It is a pleasure to work beside Senator Rasmusson and the PFA to complete this huge project.”

PFA also approved project financing for the City of Pelican Rapids to replace aging watermains, hydrants and gate valves along trunk highways 59 and 108. The City is authorized a Drinking Water SRF-Loan of $3,398,133, with a 20-year term at an interest rate of 3.076%.

The PFA is a multi-agency authority that provides municipal financing expertise and infrastructure financing programs to enhance the environmental and economic vitality of the State. The authority makes low-interest loans and grants available to finance infrastructure that might otherwise be unaffordable to communities if they had to borrow money for the projects at market rates.
