Friends and neighbors,
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is continuing its push to change feedlot permits, using an exaggerated and manufactured nitrate pollution crisis as its rationale.
This issue is being driven by left-wing environmental activists, not folks on the ground. In fact, the feedback I have heard from farmers in southern Minnesota has been strongly opposed to the MPCA’s proposal. During a recent feedback session, local farmers voiced their concerns, pointing out that the MPCA’s proposals are dramatically overreaching and disconnected from what farmers are experiencing every day.
It is simply more government overreach spurred by activists with agendas. Just like the federal government’s unannounced raids on Winona and Olmsted County dairy farms last year, these permit changes seem driven more by outside pressure than by solid, local science.
That’s why it’s crucial for residents to submit their feedback to the MPCA before the September 3 deadline. Your voice matters in this process, and it’s our best shot at ensuring that any new regulations truly reflect the needs and knowledge of those who live and work here in Minnesota.
