Draheim: Individual flood relief application deadline pushed back

Friends and neighbors,

I have good news to report. If you were impacted by the severe flooding in June and July, you now have more time to apply for federal assistance.

Grab a pen and write this down: the deadline for individuals to apply for assistance has been pushed back to October 27.

This aid is aimed at helping people affected by flooding this year who did not have insurance to cover the damage. It is available for all residents of the 19 Minnesota counties under the disaster declaration, including Blue Earth, Faribault, Le Sueur, Rice, and Watonwan. This can provide grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and other uninsured losses.

FEMA has three regional recovery centers where staff will be available to help with questions and the application process. The two closest to us are in Windom and Waseca:

Windom:

  • Cottonwood County Office Building
  • 41385 US-71 N, Windom
  • Hours: M-F, 9:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Waseca:

  • Waseca Public Safety Center
  • 303 State St S, Waseca
  • Hours: M-F, 9:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

If you prefer, you can also apply for assistance online or over the phone. Visit https://www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 for more information.

One thing to remember: Make sure you keep photographs and other documentation to submit when applying for aid.
