Friends and neighbors,
I know it is difficult to keep track of, but this week we learned of two new and alarming developments about waste and fraud in the Walz administration.
$40 Million in Medicaid overpayments uncollected
A new report from the nonpartisan Office of the Legislative Auditor shows DHS failed to recover over $40 million in Medicaid overpayments. For years, the agency didn’t notify providers about their debts or make consistent efforts to collect. Even when DHS hired contractors, the results were abysmal – less than $200,000 recovered since 2018. This lack of oversight and follow-through shortchanges taxpayers and highlights a deeper problem in how the agency manages its responsibilities.
FBI raids autism centers for Medicaid fraud
Federal investigators raided autism centers in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, uncovering substantial evidence of fraud in a state program meant for children with autism. These centers billed millions for services not provided, often using unqualified staff or falsifying claims. At least a dozen individuals tied to the Feeding Our Future scandal are also connected to these autism centers. With $400 million billed annually, the program’s explosive growth shows how unchecked fraud thrives under poor oversight.
These cases are just the latest examples of waste, fraud, and abuse under the Walz administration. Taxpayers deserve far, far better stewardship of their hard-earned money than they have been getting from Tim Walz and his administration.
