St. Paul – Freshman Senator Mark Koran has been appointed to serve on the State Government Conference Committee. Sen. Koran (R-North Branch) and four other senators, as well as members of the House of Representatives and the governor’s office, will work together to compromise on the final state government budget.

Sen. Koran has served as Vice Chair of the State Government Committee throughout the session and helped construct the state government omnibus bill that passed through the Senate earlier this month. Now he takes on a vital role as he negotiates across party lines to achieve the best budget outcome for the state government.

“I became involved in politics because I envisioned a state government that was more efficient and transparent and less bloated and wasteful. Now I am privileged to have the opportunity to make a real difference on the public’s behalf,” said Sen. Koran. “As a member of this conference committee, I am dedicated to bringing about accountability in government and reigning in the bureaucracy with a sensible state government budget. I look forward to working with everyone at the table to finish the job we set out to do in January.”

The State Government Conference Committee will also be responsible for negotiating the final veterans and military affairs budget bill. The Committee has not begun meetings yet.
