Yesterday, Gov. Mark Dayton proposed a $320 million increase to license tab fees as part of ongoing budget negotiations. Sen. Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing) issued the following statement opposing the increases.
“We’ve been down this road before. The reason we haven’t had a transportation bill the last few years has been due the governor’s desire for tax increases. With a $1.5 billion surplus, there’s no reason we should be raising taxes on working Minnesota families again. The governor had an opportunity to sign a long-term transportation funding bill with billions for roads and bridges, but he chose to veto it. I’m willing to listen to suggestions that will improve that bill, but tax hikes that hurt Minnesota families, like license tab fees, are a non-starter.”
