ST. PAUL – Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) released the following statement following an announcement from the Moorhead Police Department that they removed their Student Resource Officers following a law change passed by the Democrat-controlled legislature:
“Law Enforcement have been trying to find much needed clarity on what this law changes means, and until they do, I expect we will see more of this across the state. It’s disappointing that in their rush to enact their partisan agenda, Democrats didn’t seek out input from law enforcement on this change.
“Senate Republicans proposed the Students’ First education bill which provided $200 million for school safety needs, including funding SROs for schools if they choose. As we see the full Democrat agenda being put in to place, it’s clear there are some gaping holes that need to be fixed.”
