Benson: Safety improvements planned for Highway 65

Highway 65 in Blaine, Ham Lake, and East Bethel is scheduled to undergo several safety improvements in 2018 thanks to the Republican legislature’s 2017 comprehensive transportation package. Minnesota’s Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced recently that Reduced Conflict Intersections will be constructed at several intersections along the dangerous stretch of highway.

“Highway 65 has some of the most dangerous intersections in the state,” said Senator Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake). “In fact, a MnDOT study done about ten years ago found it to be the most dangerous stretch of highway in Minnesota. Adding Reduced Conflict Intersections along highway 65 will not only ease stress, but keep families safer as they enjoy everything our communities have to offer.”

Reduced Conflict Intersections are specifically aimed at decreasing fatalities and injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways.
