Minnesota Senate Republicans have announced that Senator Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake) will continue serving as deputy majority leader, a role she also occupied during the 2017 and 2018 legislative sessions. Sen. Benson was elected by Senate Republicans last week to serve as an assistant majority leader, and subsequently re-appointed as deputy last week by Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka.
“Ever since taking the Senate majority in 2017, Republicans have lead on the things that matter to Minnesotans,” said Sen. Benson. “We cut taxes for everyone, we fully funded education, we invested in rebuilding roads and bridges without gas tax or tab fee hikes, and we reversed the damage of Washington DC health care policies. I am honored my colleagues have chosen me to continue serving as deputy majority leader for the upcoming biennium, and I look forward to working with them and Governor-elect Walz to serve Minnesotans.”
In addition to her role as deputy majority leader, Sen. Benson will continue serving as chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee. She represents district 31, which includes Anoka, Isanti, and Sherburne Counties. Sen. Benson is serving her third term.
