In the December 13th edition of the Enterprise, there was a letter titled, “Thanks, Democrats.” Let’s look at what Democrats have done to our state recently.
Spent the $19 billion surplus. Raised taxes another $9.5 billion. Starting 1/1/24 increasing the gas tax by attaching it to inflation. Increasing the sales tax on automobiles and increasing the cost of license tabs by slowing the depreciation rate on your automobiles.
Degradation of our Education system. The National Assessment of Educational Programs (NAEP) data shows a significant impact on learning from the pandemic. The results indicate large differences in learning losses across the states. Students on average face a 2 to 9 percent lower lifetime income depending on the state in which they attended school during the pandemic. Because of Governor Walz and the Democrats failed leadership through COVID, our students are struggling. Minnesota ranks 8th highest in lifetime income loss due to the interrupted learning according to the NAEP. That computes to an expected 7 percent loss in future income. When computed into our GDP for the remainder of the 21st century, it would show a loss of just over 2.5 percent and an expected economic loss in our state of around $300 billion. Our students will continue to suffer because of Democrat leadership.
Increased the cost of doing business for our businesses, our local government units, and our schools. You will pay more at your local retailer, and you will pay more as your property taxes increase to cover the mandated costs on our local governments.
Costs of our health care and health insurance continue to increase to keep up with the mandated coverages and procedures. Our providers are in a real struggle to remain viable.
And now the Democrats are erasing our history by replacing our state flag. This is a despicable move that was passed through the legislature on a party line vote. And how much will this cost taxpayers?
The Democrat Trifecta is definitely taking us in the wrong direction.
No Thanks, Democrats!
