Friends and neighbors,
The Minnesota Department of Human Services has been soliciting feedback on their newly proposed rules for in-home daycare. Many of you have told me these massively expanded draft rules are troubling – they are invasive and, in some cases, would be so unaffordable or impractical that they would drive many more providers out of business. I voiced the concerns that you have shared with me about this proposed government takeover of private businesses during the senate floor debate on an omnibus bill relating to daycare last session.
Good news: DHS has listened to your concerns and announced they will not attempt to adopt these new childcare rules during the 2025 legislative session. This does not mean our liberal state government will not be doing rulemaking for their “modernization” campaign; it only means they will be taking a step back from trying to get the rules passed next year.
I will continue to watch how they reach out to in-home daycare providers, as they claim they will do. Please remain vigilant.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me any time at sen.steve.drazkowski@mnsenate.gov. It is a privilege to serve you.
