Friends and Neighbors,
I’m wishing you and your loved ones a very happy Thanksgiving! I am especially grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the great residents of Senate District 6, and as we gear up for the next legislative session, please remember my office is always open to hear your priorities and concerns relating to our state government.
One particular issue that needs to be focused on is that of transparency and accountability within our state agencies.
Minnesota State Lottery OLA Report
Recently, the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) released an audit of the Minnesota Lottery that revealed blatant transparency, oversight, and compliance failures. The most glaring concern was that the agency had made a 2023 decision to violate state law and limit background checks for retailers to Minnesota public records, excluding the other 49 states.
Basic compliance failures such as this are unacceptable, and it shouldn’t take an audit to uncover these issues. Compliance with state law should be a number one priority, and agency leaders should have addressed their concerns with the legislature rather than ignoring the law. These concerns coupled with the waste, fraud, and abuse reports that have been revealed in recent years are deeply concerning, and it’s time that we see Democrats join us in our repeated calls for a more transparent and accountable government.
