On Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Commerce released final rates for the 2019 individual insurance market. For the second consecutive year, Republican-led reforms have proven to help reduce or hold flat individual market health insurance rates after years of double-digit increases following the implementation of Obamacare in Minnesota.
All five of the carriers on the individual market are lowering premiums for 2019, with average rates dropping between 7.4 percent and 27.7 percent.
Residents in Dodge County, Goodhue County, Wabasha County, and Winona County will all see significant decreases in their monthly premiums. All four counties will have 34 plans to choose from. The price of a benchmark plan in each county is $482.33, which is $113 less than last year. This adds up to a savings of $1360 per year.
Senator Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing) released the following statement:
“The 2019 insurance rate reductions are great news for Minnesota families. Costs are still far too high, but two consecutive years of reductions under Republican leadership shows Minnesota is finally on the right track.”
