Gruenhagen: Small MN town stuck with wind turbine blade pile

Friends and neighbors

I wanted to share a recent story from the Star Tribune about a small city in southern Minnesota called Grand Meadow, which is dealing with an extremely difficult unintended consequence of the relentless green energy push. A few years back, a renewable energy company planned to replace wind turbines in the area. When the company went out of business, they left behind a massive pile of old wind turbine blades — more than 100 of them! The pile is so big it is visible on Google Earth.

These blades were supposed to be recycled but have instead been sitting there for almost four years. They have attracted animals, posed safety risks for kids, and dragged down property values.

City leaders have tried a number of things to get rid of the turbine pile, with no luck. The cost to remove the blades is staggering, and the town simply doesn’t have the resources to deal with it. So Grand Meadow residents are stuck with a giant, ugly, dangerous mess.

I hope you will take a few moments to read the story, which can be found here: https://www.startribune.com/seriously-this-sucks-how-a-small-minnesota-town-was-left-with-a-giant-pile-of-wind-turbine-blades/600981294.
