Gruenhagen: Walz administration’s damaging agenda for children

Friends and neighbors,

Over the last couple of years, I have written about the damage that Gov. Tim Walz and Democrats in the legislature are doing to our children with their radical agenda.

Some of what they did is finally attracting national attention. In this brief clip, Megyn Kelly lays out a nightmare scenario for parents. She tells the story of a hypothetical Wisconsin teenager. This teenager, facing emotional duress and trauma at home, slips down a rabbit hole on the internet with stories about transgender identities. She decides the source of her anxiousness and depression is she is transgender, and she needs surgery and hormones to become a boy. Her parents do not approve because they worry she is a teenager battling mental health struggles, as many do, and needs to address her mental health struggles, not engage in permanent and life altering changes to her body. So she flees her home and her loving parents to Minnesota, where a court takes custody of her and grants her access to irreversible and destructive surgeries.

While it sounds far-fetched, it is a very real possibility. In 2023, Gov. Tim Walz and Democrats here approved what they called the Trans Refuge Act, which positions Minnesota as a sanctuary state for transgender individuals – including minors – who are seeking gender care like hormone treatments, puberty blockers, or surgeries.

Advocates always say that surgeries on minors are generally not performed, and that our medical professionals focus more on counseling and non-surgical treatments. What they leave out is these surgeries are completely legal in Minnesota. As long as that remains the case, vulnerable Minnesota children – and children across the country – are at risk.

The reality is there are thousands upon thousands of children out there facing serious mental health struggles. They may believe they are transgender when the root cause of their pain could be a number of other issues.

As adults, our responsibility is to help them navigate these challenges. It is to provide them with leadership and guidance. It is to provide them with love and support, but also help them find their inner strength. Our role is not to simply submit to whatever children want at a given moment.

I sincerely believe most parents and medical professionals will handle these situations responsibly. But we need protections in law for those who don’t.

That is what Gov. Walz and the Democrats do not understand, and that is why their agenda is so dangerous.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

God Bless,

Glenn
