Friends and neighbors,
Recently in the Human Services Committee, I pressed the Minnesota Department of Human Services on the governor’s budget and the impact it will have on nursing homes, EMS, and your local property taxes.
In our area, we have lost two nursing homes. Families are left scrambling, hoping their loved ones can find care elsewhere. EMS providers are also struggling, forced to cover larger and larger areas with fewer resources. These challenges are putting lives at risk – especially in rural Minnesota.
I asked what the governor’s budget would do to fix these issues. Instead of solutions, I got a lot of vague explanations and no real answers.
Instead of real relief or solutions, the Walz budget simply shifts $642 million in costs onto counties. That will force local governments to raise your property taxes to foot the bill.
That’s not a solution. That’s avoiding responsibility.
Meanwhile, while the state claims it has no money for our most vulnerable loved ones, the governor somehow finds millions for expanded benefits for undocumented immigrants. His budget is not putting Minnesotans first.
