Senator Karin Housley (R-Stillwater) today released the following statement in response to Governor Walz’s announcement of including seniors earlier in the State’s vaccination efforts, effective immediately:
“This is a small step in the right direction, but it isn’t nearly quick enough for our seniors who have been isolated for almost a year awaiting the vaccine. During Senate hearings, we exposed bottlenecks in vaccine distribution and hundreds of doses that were being wasted and not provided to those most vulnerable. Frustrated seniors are still waiting for answers on Governor Walz’s vaccination plan. They’ve been left behind, again. I am glad that Governor Walz is allowing vaccination partners to provide any remaining 1(a) doses to seniors aged 65 and older, but that’s just the remaining doses not used for Health Care Workers and not nearly enough for our senior population that deserves to be at the top of the list. As the Governor and MDH finalize the next phases of vaccines, I urge that he prioritize these seniors to receive the vaccine first, and then continue distribution to other workers once all of the seniors are covered throughout the State. I want Minnesotans to know that I will continue to fight for our seniors and our most vulnerable when it comes to the vaccine rollout. Our seniors deserve answers, transparency, and the option to receive immediate vaccination distribution.”
